Honey Orange Chicken
Better then takeout?... I'd say it's better then 99% of the restaurants where I live. Add some Crab Rangoons and it is 100% better.
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients
2 chicken breasts
1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill® Cornstarch
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons roasted peanut oil
sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons Bourbon Barrel Foods® Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Pearl River Bridge® Light Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Heinz Organic® Ketchup
1 tablespoons Whole Foods® Light Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon mirin
3 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon Huy Fong Foods® Chili Garlic Sauce
1 teaspoon Lee Kum Kee's Premium® Oyster Sauce
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tablespoon ginger, minced
1 tablespoon Bob’s Red Mill® Cornstarch
2 dried thai chilis
garnish
1 tablespoon green scallion, cut on bias
toasted sesame seeds
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325℉.
Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper.
In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch. Set aside for later.
In a bowl, beat the eggs. In a gallon size zip bag add the cornstarch. Add the chicken into cornstarch and shake to coat. Shake any excess cornstarch off the chicken and add to the egg mixture. Then put the coated chicken back into the cornstarch bag.
Heat peanut or neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook chicken until browned. It does not need to be fully cooked, since it will finish cooking with the honey sauce. Place the browned chicken pieces into a greased baking dish.
Pour the honey mixture over chicken and add the 2 chilis. Bake for ~20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.
I stirred the chicken after ~10 minutes so that it coated them in the sauce. The chicken should be fully cooked and the sauce thickened.
In a bowl with some jasmine or brown rice, add the chicken and sauce. Garnish with some green scallion and toasted sesame seeds.
Notes
- Serve with some steamed broccoli
